Erasmus+ staff exchange in Oxford

Cecilia Leideman Bäck

Between 24 – 28 March, I spent an Erasmus+ staff exchange week in Oxford. The objective was two-fold; Firstly, to take part in a European speech-writers training conference. Secondly; to meet with representatives from Oxford university who are engaged in similar tasks as I am, i.e. speech-writing or organizing external outreach events.

Jessica Cunniffe, former speech-writer to former British prime minister David Cameron held a one-day work shop packed with insights and speech-writing tips.

Being the only officially appointed speech-writer at Karolinska Institutet, this training conference offered the opportunity to liaise and network with speech-writers from all over Europe working for academic leaders, business leaders or politicians, e.g. commissioners to the EU. We also had the opportunity to visit Exeter College, one of 43 colleges in Oxford including dining in an authentic Harry Potter inspired dining-room.

The dining room at Exeter College were we had dinner one evening of the course.

The official programme of the week was of course the prime objective of the visit. However, spending a week in a university with such rich historic and cultural heritage as Oxford was in itself truly inspirational. This aspect of an exchange should not be underestimated.
